MC-PEM-1288
PEM Membrane
Proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis is a modular technology that is also easily scalable. It could be designed depending on the final application, according to the amount of H2 required. These systems work at a high current density (around 2 A/cm2) at a temperature between 50°C and 80°C.
Proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers are considered as one of the most promising hydrogen production technologies. A PEM electrolysis cell consists of two electrodes sandwiching a proton-conducting electrolyte (as the name indicates). These three components, the anode, electrolyte, and cathode, and assembled into a single unit known as a membrane electrode assembly (MEA). PEM electrolyzers are also known as solid polymer electrolyzers (SPE) due to the fact that a solid electrolyte is being used.
